Harry Styles Love on Tour | Nashville Night 2 | October 1, 2021 | Concert Review

Concerts are finally back and we couldn't be more excited! I finally had the opportunity to attend a concert since at least 2018 and it was a fantastic welcome back. As you can see by the title of this post, I was able to attend the second night of the Nashville shows for Love on Tour with Harry Styles and Jenny Lewis.

Love on Tour was first announced in 2019 and went on sale shortly after unfortunately Covid turned the world upside down shortly after and the tour was postponed and quickly rescheduled for late 2021. I was able to grab tickets for the tour for the original Nashville date during the presale and have been eagerly awaiting the day to use the tickets. As you will see in previous posts, I have had the opportunity to see Harry Styles perform at the Ryman Auditorium and for Live on Tour at Bridgestone Arena, so I knew that this concert was going to be a blast as well.

A few weeks before the tour kicked off in Las Vegas it was announced that all ticket holders must submit proof of full vaccination or a negative Covid test along with wearing a mask for the show. Personally it wasn't much of a surprise to me seeing as the leading man on tour has the motto of "Treat People With Kindness" and I assumed that the crew and band would be submitting to the same thing. Prior to the opener, Jenny Lewis, and his own set there was a pre recorded message from Harry himself thanking everyone for getting vaccinated or being tested and reminding them to keep their masks on during the show because "you can tell more about a person from their eyes, anyway".

As I mentioned above, Jenny Lewis was the opener for the tour and she was shining brightly in a full golden sequin jumpsuit on the large centered stage. She wowed the crowd with songs like 'Head Underwater', 'Red Bull and Hennessy', and 'Little White Dove'. She even had a sweet intro for 'Puppy and a Truck' which included a story about writing the song in East Nashville during quarantine and started with a phone call from her dog which made me laugh.

So who is Jenny Lewis anyway? The short of it is she is a singer/songwriter who was the lead singer of Rilo Kiley before the band broke up in 2014. Since then she has been in a few other bands while starting her own venture that she is doing today. Her music is indie rock that has a country flair with a vintage twist to it which fit with Love on Tour and the Nashville tour dates.

Once the house lights came on for the switch from Jenny to Harry's set I could see that the crowd had really started to fill in which is such a strange situation to be in after the previous year. By the time 'Olivia' by One Direction started playing between the sets the crowd had filled in almost all the way. During Live on Tour this was one of the last songs played before Harry took the stage, but not this year. The crowd sang right along with the old One Direction song as the crew worked on clearing the stage and soon enough 'Bohemian Rhapsody' blasted through the speakers with the same result. The energy in the room ramped up as the room filled all the way to when the lights finally went out, the Love Band took the stage and 'Golden' started with Harry rising through a hole in the stage.

I couldn't think of a better track to start the new tour with than the first song from the new album. The gorgeous instrumental opening to the song allowed the time for Harry to make his appearance and the crowd to settle into the excitement before the song kicked in. The beautiful summer song was followed by another fun, upbeat song, 'Carolina' from his previous album.

I have to say that I loved this stage setup, and Harry Styles is the perfect entertainer to have a centered stage. There was truly no bad seat in the house as he moved from corner to corner, front to back, and to both of the catwalks for each song to make sure that every person in the room got a bit of the experience. Harry entertained and interacted with the crowd between songs, and even during songs. He pointed out people having a good time with him and he danced along with them. I loved the way that each member of the Love Band would dance on the main stage as much as their lead. Each member of the band had their moment in the sun as they should!

Toward the end of 'She', Mitch made his way down the catwalk nearest us to the B-stage while playing the guitar solo to a loud and excited audience. The band allowed that song to breathe as the next song was 'Falling' with the intro to 'Two Ghosts' from the previous album. The simple lighting, and placement brought the focus to the vocals of this song and it is so good live!

One of my favorite parts of the show came from my least favorite song from the Fine Line album. As the crowd shouted the lyrics of 'Treat People With Kindness' along with the band, I could feel the warmness of the lyrics floating around the room. The weight of the lyrics really took shape since we all had to go through something to be able to be in a place where "we could feel good".

Overall the vocals this tour are much stronger than the previous two tours I have been to. The Ryman show was only the third show that Harry had done as a solo artist and he was stiff and it felt a little off for a while, but he warmed up as the show went on and that show will always hold a special place in my heart. As for Live on Tour from Bridgestone in 2018 the vocals were on par as to be expected; however, there were several dates right in a row and Nashville was toward the end of the tour, so it was obvious he was getting more tired. For Love on Tour in Nashville it looked like he gave everything he had, and we couldn't have been more appreciative!

Love on Tour will be continuing on through the US until the end of November, so if you get the chance to see a show you won't be disappointed! Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you will be dancing the night away!
